New restrooms are slated to open at the busy boat launch at Little Jim Bridge in the next couple of weeks — as soon as the county receives approval from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The $36,000 design, engineering and permitting phase of the restroom project was paid for with a pair of $18,000 grants from the Florida Inland Navigation District and the Florida Boating Improvement Program.
The precast concrete bathrooms, which include a men's room, women's room and family bathroom, cost $150,000. The Florida Inland Navigation District and St. Lucie County each paid $75,000.
Update: (06/15/2011)
The St. Lucie County Board of County recently completed the installation of a new restroom facility at the Stan Blum Boat Ramp on North Hutchinson Island.
White City Park is a beautiful, if unusual-looking, park bordered by the St. Lucie River. Rather than the standard South Florida pines and palms, White City Park features tons of old oak trees, breathtaking, and dripping in Spanish moss, as well as enormous stands of bamboo. There are plenty of picnic tables, a picnic shelter, and a children's playground. The park is also a very popular destination for bank fishing along the St Lucie River.
