Welcome to the Harris Chain of Lakes

Screen_shot_2011-04-11_at_12.20.24_PM

Set amongst the quaint towns of Eustis, Mount Dora, Leesburg, and Tavares is the Harris Chain of Lakes. This chain is a part of the Oklawaha River Basin and includes Lake Eustis (7,806 acres), Lake Harris (15,087 acres), Little Lake Harris (3,359 acres), Lake Dora (4,475 acres), Lake Beauclair (1,140 acres), Lake Griffin (9,327 acres), Lake Yale (4,013 acres) and Lake Carlton (376 acres).

These are some of the largest lakes in the state, and as such provide a multitude of recreation options for Floridians. Sailors, boaters, and waterskiers are common sights on all of these lakes, but the main attraction on the Harris chain is the bass fishing. Countless tournaments have been hosted on this chain, attracted to the prize-winning bass which have put these lakes in the national spotlight.

The popularity of the area and its charming towns have brought many tourists and permanent settlers to the area in recent years. The population growth on and around the lakefronts has led to a strong effort to preserve the quality of the area's lakes. The Harris Chain of Lakes Restoration Council and the Lake County Water Authority are two organizations devoted to the upkeep of the Harris Chain's beautiful waters to be enjoyed for generations to come. WearItFloridaPack

May 21-27 2011

This year during National Safe Boating Week, and throughout the boating season remember to practice safe and responsible boating, always wear your life jacket, and be alert and aware while on the water. By practicing these simple steps you can save your life as well as the lives of the people boating with you. Life jackets are now more comfortable and lightweight than ever, with many new styles to fit the style you want. Safe boating saves lives so for this year’s North American Safe Boating Week (May 21–27, 2011) and throughout the boating season remember to "Wear It!"

safeboatingwobOrlando FL., May 15 2010, - The World of Boating, Florida By Water, The Coast Guard Auxiliary as well as other marine agencies kicked off“Safe Boating Week” (May 22-28) with a show dedicated to promoting water safety.

The show had segments with discussions relating to topics such as Life Jackets, DSC Radios, MMSI numbers, BUI , Vessel Safety Checks, and Boating Safety Education.

Greg Holt, host of World of Boating Radio, stated, “Boating safety is subject that is often overlooked by the media. Many boaters would like to avoid this subject but the truth is, just following a few basic principles can save lives. If the World of Boating can help get the message out, then we all sleep better at night”
