The most well-known waterway in Lake County was penned in the 1930s by a leading sports writer as “the most beautiful mile of water in the world.” Lined with towering cypress trees that are draped with Spanish moss, the Dora Canal is a safe haven for nesting ospreys, herons and egrets.

n the 1830s, the canal was not only popular for its natural beauty, but because the mile-long connection linked the two important lakes of Dora and Eustis. Bordering the two lakes are the cities of Eustis, Tavares and Mount Dora. Together the municipalities form the Golden Triangle area of Lake County. Each city sports its own heritage and quaint downtown district that are a hit with tourists

*Also 12 paved boat ramps, including two that can accommodate deep-draft vessels

Located within an hour of central Florida attractions and theme parks, this park is home to one of the state's largest live oak trees. A short trail near the park entrance takes visitors to the mammoth oak tree. A canal connects the park to Lake Griffin, the eighth largest lake in Florida, where visitors can enjoy boating and canoeing, as well as fishing. Anglers will find plenty of largemouth bass, bluegill, speckled perch, and catfish. Visitors can observe the park's wildlife while picnicking or strolling along the half-mile nature trail. A shady, full-facility campground beckons travelers to spend the night or an entire vacation here. There is no swimming due to a healthy alligator population. Located three miles north of Leesburg and 30 miles south of Ocala.
